My work reflects the trajectory from darkness to light, often playing with illumination and shadow in his compositions, in order to explore the grit and pain that often belies the sheens of stardom.‘Johnny Cash - Joker’ depicts the Country legend, dressed up in the green and orange suit of Joaquin Phoenix’s cult portrayal of the Joker. Cash’s contemplative face bears the traces of clown paint, while the star-spangled banner adorns the background, its surface worn and faded, like the vestiges of the American dream. Beautifully rendered in layers of lovingly crafted pigment, ‘Johnny Cash - Joker’ marries these two iconic American figures, to produce an all-new icon of contemporary art.
